Early Years
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, but raised in Santa Barbara, California, Kate’s original love in music was Bulgarian Folk Music, which she discovered at the tender age eleven. At age 14, she was invited to join the Santa Barbara Folklore Ensemble. Although she had grown up singing back up to her two older sisters, it was in the Balkan music that she truly awakened to her voice. Also a talented and passionate dancer, she became the women’s choreographer and vocal director for Zdravitsa Balkan Dance Ensemble when she was only 16. She also studied African Dance with Kay Fulton, Modern Dance with Neville Black and Ballet with Valerie Houston.
