Hummel

From 14th century Sweden, the Hummel is the forefather of the Appalachian, lap or fretted dulcimer. It has 10 strings, 6 of which are drones. The Hummel pictured here was made in 1974 by eccentric Santa Barbara luthier Brain Mumford. It is one of only 17 that he built. She also has one from guitar luthier Richard Prenkirk.
