Dumbek
The goblet drum popular in the Middle East. Kate learned to play this when she was in her teens by playing along with the Belly dance shows at the Plaka Greek restaurant where she danced. She continued her playing with various North African and Persian musicians, including Omar Vit Amoun and santoor legend Darioush.
Dore
From Central Asia, the inside rim of this frame drum is lined with metal rings that add a metalic element to its otherwise deep voice.
Djembe
From Africa, this large goblet drum has a profound presence. This one was hand carved from a solid piece of wood by Paulo Mattioli.
Bodhran
A frame drum from Ireland, it is played with a stick or “tipper” and is capable of tremendous rhythmic intricacy. Kate learned this during her years as a busker at the Renaissance Pleasure Faires across the country.

This is a primative Tamborine from Persia.
Udu
From Nigeria, this clay pot has a unique and somewhat melodic and watery percussive quality.
